Merriam's Turkey Hunt
Merriam’s Turkey Hunt in Nebraska and Wyoming
Merriam’s turkey hunts are conducted along either side of the border between Nebraska and Wyoming during the month of May. We tend to contain our hunts to the region around the N Platte River Valley where there are healthy populations of Merriam’s Turkeys in both states.
Merriam’s Turkey Hunting Lodge
Lodging is provided at this modern facility in Torrington, WY. Meals are provided and your guide will pick you up each morning and deliver you back here at the end of your hunt each day. Your guide will pick you up around 4:30AM (after breakfast) and you will likely hunt all day only returning to the lodge after 7:30PM.
This is a 2-state hunt and our hunts are organized to provide you the best opportunity to harvest two great Merriam’s Turkeys, one in NE and one in WY. These hunts are fully guided on private land. All of our guides are very experienced in guiding for turkeys in this area and have their own leases and equipment needed to provide you the best hunt possible. You may start the day in a popup, then run and gun for a while and maybe even try a little fanning. Each hunt is customized to meet your needs and abilities.
This area is known for its unpredictable weather during the month of May, so we have extended the hunt to four full days of hunting. Again, this will help maximize your opportunity to harvest two birds. Your guide will have scouted the day before your first hunt and will decide at that time which state you will hunt first. So, you should obtain licenses / permits for both states when you arrive. See the paragraphs below for more information.
Merriam’s Turkey Hunt in Nebraska
Merriam’s turkey hunting permits in Nebraska may be purchased online. You will need to go to their website and create an account. Then, you may purchase your permit when they become available. Nebraska offers non-residents up to two permits per season. We do not offer bonus birds, so you will only need one permit. You may establish your online account and purchase your Nebraska turkey hunting permit. Once you’ve made your purchase, you’re good to go. Also, Nebraska offers online check-in of your bird.
Merriam’s Turkey Hunt in Wyoming
Merriam’s turkey hunting licenses and tags in Wyoming may be purchased online. You should make sure you purchase your license in plenty of time for them to have it mailed to you because WY still uses paper tags and you will need to have it attached to your bird before you move it from the field. First, you will need to establish an online account. Purchase your Wyoming turkey hunting license and tag. As an alternative, you may wait until you get to WY and buy your license and tag locally. We have seen times when the establishment is closed or their machine is down. We strongly recommend that you have everything you need before your arrival at the lodge.
Our Merriam’s Turkey hunts are scheduled for May 1 – 4, May 6 – 9, May 11 – 14, May 16 – 19, May 21 – 24. You should schedule your travel to arrive at the lodge the afternoon prior to the beginning of your hunt. The cost is $2,000 and includes 4 days 1:1 fully guided hunting, 4 nights lodging, meals, and transportation during your hunt.
While many people choose to drive, flying into Denver and renting a car is an option as it is less than 200 miles from the lodge.
This is an idyllic hunt you will always look back on with fond memories.
